How do I avoid Sweatcoin trading scammers?

« Go back to Sweatcoin FAQ

Trading Sweatcoin is becoming very popular, especially in 2018. Because the founders announced that they’re working on an official blockchain cryptocurrency, everyone is trying to buy Sweatcoins in order to save for the impending cryptocurrency.

Unfortunately, if you want to buy Sweatcoins you’ll have to either buy/invest in Sweatcoins on this website or with another user online. There have been many reports of scammers trying to steal either money or Sweatcoins, so if you’re not willing to risk it, it’s probably best to save your Sweatcoins.

Below are some simple tips how to play safe. Remember, this advice does not prevent you from being scammed. Scammers are really good at being sneaky and building false trust. Therefore you have to use your intuition. Never trade with someone if you have any doubt or hesitation!

How do I know if someone is trying to scam me?

Scamming has recently become a major issue in the sweatcoin community. Often scammers will create multiple accounts after being reported. As the sweatcoin app gets more popular, and prices continue to rise, the scamming gets worse. Although you can never be completely sure that the person you are buying from or selling to is not a scammer, there are some obvious signs that could save you from losing your hard earned money or steps.

Pay Attention to Usernames

The usernames are a very obvious sign as to if someone is a scammer. Often sweatcoin scammers’ usernames will involve sweatcoin in some way. Some examples of this are sweatcoiner7, sweatcoinbuyer, etc. This does not mean all people with these names are scammers, but be very cautious of this. These usernames imply that someone created account only to buy or sell Sweatcoins. However, this might not be the best method of detecting a potential scammer …

“Too Good to Be True” Prices

Scammers do not care what rate they are “buying” or “selling” at because they aren’t actually go to pay so it does not matter. The scammers also seem to be very negotiable. For example, if they give an offer of 0.03$ per coin and you offer 0.01$ per coin they will usually agree. So please check the current price of sweatcoins before selling. Scammers will also pretend to have a very large amount of coins. A simple solution to this is to ask for proof. If a deal seems too good to be true, it most likely is.

Who Sends First?

This is a very simple solution which will work the majority of the time. If someone seems suspicious have them send first. Some people will get suspicious of you when you ask this so split the transactions. If you are selling 500 sweatcoins at once, break up the transition into something like 100 sweatcoins at a time. This does bring up another problem though. Scammers will say that they will send 5 sweatcoins or 0.20$ then ask you to send the entire rest of the transaction. That is most likely a scam. Always do equal amounts. If you are selling 500 sweatcoins for 0.02$ per do something like 100 sweatcoins for 2$ at a time.

Splitting up the purchase/sale into smaller transactions is absolutely critical when it involves a large amount. For example if you are buying 500 Sweatcoins, then split up the transactions into a 100 + 200 + 200. That way, if the scammer takes off with your money or coins, you will not have lost all of it. This doesn’t prevent scamming but it mitigates it. Usually scammers will NOT agree to a split up transaction like this. If someone does not agree to this, simple do not trade with them. It’s not unreasonable to request these smaller transactions – in fact I think they are quite necessary for all transactions, big or small!

Account Age

Before selling your coins or buying coins, ask to see the trader’s sweatcoin account. Make sure that the account has been around at least a couple days and has a good amount of steps converted. Most scammers will create an account, scam someone then send the coins to their main account, and delete the new account. Make sure the PayPal is also reliable and dated.

You can do this by getting their Sweatcoin username and sending them 0.01 Sweatcoin which will reveal their profile. You can see how many Sweatcoins they’ve generated and how long they’ve had the app. You should do this for every single trade, even if the buyer/seller is a very reputable trader!
